iPhone EDGE settings for Vodafone UK

Well my unlocked iphone has finally arrived from the US, and I’ve been tweaking it for the last couple of hours so that everything is working properly.
When I tried to fire up Safari on the iPhone I got the error “Could not activate EDGE: you are not subscribed to EDGE”. The EDGE settings (GPRS) that are posted on some of the forums for Vodafone UK are incorrect. You need the following settings to use the web (when not in range of wi-fi) on the UK vodafone network. These settings are correct for my contract with vodafone, not sure about pay as you go.
These are the iPhone EDGE APN settings. I
n your iphone go to:
> Settings > General -> Network ->EDGE
Enter the following:
APN: internet
Username: web
Password: web
Now go back to safari and try and load a page. Should work!
Update: One user was having problems with these settings and it was because EDGE had been disabled. You need to check it is enabled before using these settings. Some Pay As You Go (PAYG) customers have said that these Vodafone EDGE APN settings work on the PAYG platform as well.
The setting don’t work on my 16 gig 1.1.4 unlocked iPhone
I’ve emailed Phil. He is on a Contract and has added the Internet Package (unlimited web & email), so this is not a Pay as you go issue.
I have verified that these setting are still working on my iPhone (vodafone contract, but without unlimited internet). Investigating whether there are different APN settings for the vodafone internet & mail package.
I have recently moved from blogger to wordpress, but there were several positive comments left on the old site saying this was working.

If you are on the Vodafone Network in the UK the settings above should work.
Phil (the previous poster) finally got his iPhone working with these settings. for some reason the EDGE (GPRS) on his iPhone had been turned off. He downloaded and installed bossprefs and it showed that edge was disabled. After enabling EDGE these settings do work.

as my settings for mnths now. I leave the username and password blank. I’m on voda contract and use an unlocked 16GB 1.1.4 iPhone.
Hi I am not able to see the EDGE setting in general settings.. mines in 2.0..1 2G vodafone india
Thanks a million I couldn’t work my iphone vodafone internet with EDGE until you gave me the tip to download Big Boss’ preferences via Cydia and bingo it works!

I’ve tried loads of different APN settings, user names and passwords and can’t seem to get my Vodafone PAYG phone to let me access the internet.
My Iphone is unlocked and is running version 1.0.2
where do i find boss prefs you refer to?

hi, could anyone please help me im going mad….
ive brought an iphone off a friend, it is unlocked and ive got a vodafone contract sim. i can call off the phone and send text messages, but im paying for unlimited web usuage but i cannot access my voda fone live, or wap.
im only able to connect to the web if im in wifi.
can i get settings to access my web usage.

Hey there ppl i have tried everything to get internet setting on this i phone i had it and now it wont work its a 2g phone unlocked on voda, has anyone got any suggestions or help ?

the above settings work on my unlocked 3GS 32gig iphone, (bought directly from vodafone nz) not jailbroken.
running 3.1 (7C144)
i’m on vodafone £10 sim only monthly contract, with a £5 unlimited web add on.

Thanks – Took less than 30 seconds and it works fine! I am on a vodafone UK contract with unlimited internet using a 2G Iphone version 2.2
I just brought one unlocked as I was so unhappy with my N97 on vodaphone.
Was so jarred off believing my net wouldn’t work. Thanks to you…. I’ve removed my iphone from ebay and happily using it now!!!
